Great work Aza !! Really nice to see you are successfully mastering stencil art. The problem with less-thick paper is that it is hard to spray outside or on upright canvas. Do you spray flat or upright ?? Mylar paper is popular indeed. If you want a thin easy to cut paper, and cheap, consider trying these thin laminated pouches that are use to laminate document. It is thin but will last well with time; also there is a one side which is coated and smooth, and one side which is a bit sticky, so it is perfect to cut - chinahufeng.en.alibaba.com/product/494981539-50090738/Laminating_pouches_A4_125mic.htmlThe one with extra layer is better (especially at shin) but then quality is there so both are great ! Cheers Thanks that's another option to try, although I am reluctant to start sticking together many small sheets, although I fear I may have to. Getting stuff printed at A1 is not cheap I spray flat at moment. I did try using laminated paper before, which I used spray adhesive to stick to the canvas, but that proved to be not very practical as I struggled to get it to lay flat on the canvas. That method worked fine on wood though, as it didn't have the flexibility of a canvas. It's all a learning curve really with plenty of trial and error.

That's exactly what I used, thin laminated paper with repositionable 3M spray glue... but indeed it is not very practical as the paper is flimsy and also react with chemicals and glue (it curves a bit). Also as you said, small sheets is a problem (especially to have the layers well aligned - posterize + printing on A4 + sticking bac everything together) but then it is the cheap method !
Your last pic is great, fun !!
So which paper are you using here then ?

That is on standard A1 printer paper which I think is 90gsm. It works fine until you have big expanses, I probably needed more bridges to be honest. I think A1 on 200gsm would be ideal, but it is so expensive to have printed My Dre stencil was on the same A1 paper and those stencils survived fine. http://instagram.com/p/z9yNteBuhb

Would love to hear some of your tips and hints from picking an image and then the process to doing a stencil

Thanks So far I've just been using photos that I like. Load up into Photoshop to make the stencils. I just followed tutorials online. I think you can do the same stuff with free software like Gimp. Now I've had some stencil practice it is time to create something original, although my wife wants a bloody Marilyn Monroe done next. I suppose they would be a good chance to experiment with some diamond dust

Here's my system of weights Those insect type things are a great idea. Wire, couple of bolts, and tape? The problem comes when you want to stencil a wall!

I think both versions are nice and if you hadn't shown us both in comparison, I think only a hand full of nerds would have spotted the difference, for myself, I don't have a favorite one..... but the pic of your weight system looked like some crazy future installation at first glance....like it

Excellent work AzaHave you considered using Mylar sheets? Thanks mat. Not tried Mylar yet. I think the closest to that I have tried was laminated paper, but that ended up a bit too thick. I shall have to do a test with Mylar, would it run through a printer ok? Hey Aza, The mylar sheet i'm using is 125 micron. I use a hot cutter to cut with. I've never printed directly to it, but print onto paper and basically trace over with the cutter. Once you go round with the hot cutter, you just pick out with blade. This is the cutter I'm using at the minute. Its basically like a soldering iron with a sharp point!

That looks interesting mat. I suppose you can get really intricate cuts with it? I'll do some research on it after work

Anyone had any experience with diamond dust? I've been experimenting, but not pleased with the results so far. I've tried PVA glue and Photo Mount glue. Also tried various amounts of diamond dust. This is probably the best attempt so far. I know it doesn't work with the image, but I'm running out of surfaces to try it on http://instagram.com/p/1kPkNuhukD

I think mainly due to the shine that the glue gives the canvas. The best result was when I sprayed the canvas lightly with photo mount glue. It looked great, as if the diamond dust was just sitting on the canvas. Unfortunately it was and I just brushed it off Do you think applying the PVA glue and then spraying it with Matt varnish before applying the dust could work? It's getting expensive trying out all this stuff
