Love me some KAWS, so I decided to make a thread dedicated to him. Apparently he will be releasing these plush toys next month Shanghai will be welcoming a monumental sculpture by artist KAWS next month — the first colossal piece by KAWS to be in Mainland China. Launching in partnership with fashion department store Lane Crawford and curating company AllRightsReserved, the exhibition is one of the Brooklyn-based artist’s largest sculptures to date, and was recently held in Hong Kong. It depicts KAWS’ iconic “COMPANION” character standing seven meters tall, holding two smaller COMPANIONS in his arms. In coordination with the launch, Lane Crawford will be releasing a KAWS limited edition collection comprised of hand-painted canvas bags, canvas cushions, gray and white cotton T-shirts, and mini plush dolls that are limited to 1,000 pieces. The collection is made with natural and sustainable materials, and each item features the “CLEAN SLATE” character. Be sure to check out “CLEAN SLATE” by KAWS at Piazza of Shanghai Times Square from May 15-May 31.

Why whats whack about it? He has been in the toy business for a while, I don't see it as a crazy cross over to do a plush one. Anymore than what he is putting out would be overkill but I like it just as a stand alone piece.

I like the sculptures but have no interest in displaying a plush toy. I respect vinyl sculptures as a medium, and simply cannot give that same respect to a plush toy.

disdig1 thanks for starting this thread. Interestingly I've never fancied trying to pick up one of the toys however this one really appeals to me. The only thing is there is no chance of picking one up which is frustrating.

Personally I love his abstract work the most but can enjoy the toys. I wonder when we will see any vinyl toys from him again, he has really slowed down since original fake has closed. I would love to see a toy of this image.

Thanks for the link very interesting. I'd love to get one of his pics one day. I absolutely love the bright colours. I've never seen one in person but I bet the colours really pop out.

I bought a paper smile print last year and its without a doubt the nicest screen print I have come across in terms of quality of the ink and paper. The colors are so vibrant its almost like its painted, I love it.

There is no price on any of it yet according to lane Crawford.. Not sure where the US$ price has come from. It may or may not be accurate. Import duties of around 40% make foriegn goods expensive here but could be in co op with a Chinese company to offset that.
But my wife called them and they new all about it just had no pricing info which was weird
So will be interesting
