Nice comment Json, and generally I'm with you on this about the weight. I also use deckled edged paper, but have to cut it down, because the paper I used is only truly deckled at an A1 size. This is the case for many expensive papers. You can tear the paper, and people often call it deckled, but in reality it's not, it's just hand torn. You know the difference Anyway, right now I'm having a sort of crisis, check this out. My paper supplier from long time, has stopped getting Fabriano 5, because the factory in Italy changed its rollers, and my supplier believes it is no longer satisfactory for printing, its become too textured or smthg. The paper goes through these rollers as a final stage in its production and serves to smooth it. I need to see the new Fab for myself, because I might have to switch suppliers. But if the new Fab is no good, then I don't know what I'm going to do, go to the boss in Italy and have some harsh words Tony Montana style. Listen to fed, he knows his paper don't listen to me, I'm drunk

True true ... but ... not sure if I expressed myself properly. The Fabriano in factory in Italy (the only fabriano factory) has changed its rollers !!! It doesn't matter what supplier you go to, if it's Fabriano that you're into (such as myself) that paper that I've grown to love is no longer going to be the same. If you're as obsessive as I am about this printing paper, this matters. I just need to see what these new rollers have done to it before I come to any conclusions.

I enjoy Fabriano as well but wouldn't say it's so unique it can't be replaced. have you tried Stonehenge? or Aches88? both comparable and highly recommended

Hmm, I have and do use many different types of paper. Fab V is one of my faves. It's still being made, just how they make it has changed. Yes stonehenge, yes to beautiful arches french paper and many others. My paper from you Fed is actually still in the flattening process, you know the octopus on cartridge paper. As Fab is 50 percent cotton, it doesn't crease in a tube in that way. Anyway never mind, it seems as though I'm just coming across as a newbie to you people when all I'm trying to explain are about significant changes to a decades old factory. Things change right.

No you do not come across like a newb, i completely understand where you are coming from. I have that with the arches88 and also with handmade 2.000 gsm carborundum prints... Just crazy about that. If they would ever change the way they rolled it, it wouldn't be the same...

Thing I don't like about Fabriano is the watermarks but each to their own. I recently wanted an archival white in the fabriano price range and struggled to find anything. I ended up using Heritage white. Wasn't the brilliant white I initially wanted but did the job nicelly. 300gsm archival and good value. Will be my first point of call in future depending on what i'm doing.
so to answer the OP. Yes it matters to me. I generally look for 300gsm ish and an Archival paper.

Elioti, did you end up buying any madrid litho paper? I have a sample of it but not sure if it's archival?

I saw these videos the other day (these embeds may not work, but it's worth a go), and they struck me as totally awesome. I would appreciate totally awesome, tactile handmade paper. It seems to work out at about £30 for an A1 sheet of 200gsm paper, which isn't exactly cheap, but then it does have "the utmost characters of washi", which has to be good.
