What are everyone's thoughts about the ideal spacing between the edge of a canvas and the frame, in a box frame? I am unsure. Attached photos - the Banksy has a 10cm gap, the Nick Walker has a 8cm gap. Would love to hear your thoughts. And apologies about the photos being 90 degrees off - they are the correct way up when I upload them and they get rotated during the upload! Ideas on how to fix that?

11cm on the Banksy and 9.5cm on the Walker.

10mm?! Wow - that's a very small gap. I take it there is nothing to see on the edge of the box canvas? On my Walker, there isn't anything to see, so I debated making the gap much smaller, but on the Banksy, I wanted to be able to see the "signature" on the edge of the box.
Do you have a photo of a piece with the 10mm gap? Would be very interested to see what it looks like.
Cheers!

blandy Do the pieces you've shown above have glazing on them as well? I never put glazing over any of my canvases in tray frames. I always feel glazing on an original canvas takes something away/texture from the piece and adds an unnecessary distraction when focus should be on the art itself

I like box frames snug around the canvas. 10mm is more than enough. Even with some tagging or writing on the side of a canvas 10 mm will just about to show it but not distract from the canvas itself. I always make sure the box frames do not distract from canvas and i never place glass in them as i agree with delloy. Unnecessary distraction on the art itself and takes away the canvas structure...
imo.
