This is NOT meant to start a heated discussion and I hope i didn't push any buttons, but I couldn't help myself.
What's going on? It even says in the "About" section of his website:
"Your stuff seems similar to Banksy: Im not like Banksy at all, I dont have that lovely British accent."
I actually think he's very talented and I appreciate a lot of the work, but it's so similar to Banksy's that I'm not sure I'd be able to say with confidence who made what for certain pieces. Also the signature, the "street art and staying anonymous" video that's very reminiscent of "Exit Through The Gift Shop"...
Is this on purpose? Is he drawing influence because he's also a fan of Banksy, or is he trying to replicate a style that has proven itself?
If there's history I don't know about, I'd love to hear!

Tabby is a big fan of Banksy and his style is heavily influenced by Banksy. The signature stencil is a cheap copy, nothing to whitewash here. The video is more like a funny tribute in my eyes.
Beside that: Tabby is not in it only for the money. He is a street artist who is doing a lot of work on the streets of vienna. He is a passionated stencil sprayer with talent and gets some attention for that in his hometown vienna. Because people like his stuff he was asked if there is a possibility to buy some of the art. He decided to produce some canvases and prints and put them up for sale. People liked it and bought it. Even people from outside of vienna decided to buy without knowing his street pieces. At some point people on the uaa discovered him and he got more attention because of that.
Regarding his style and the pictures he is creating you can say that there are some which look like Banksy. But aren't there a lot of stencil artists out there who have this 'problem'? Fake for example. One of his works even made it into an unofficial Banksy calender. Nobody has a problem with Fake because everybody knows it wasn't his intention. As a stencil artist there is always the risk of beeing called a banksy copy. I think he has some really good ideas and translates them very well into stencils.
The difference between tabby and bambi is huge in my opinion. Tabby doesn't advertise his work with mentioning Banksy. Bambi says she is the female banksy, so she clearly uses banksys name to get attention. Second difference between those two is, bambi's stencils look terrible. Everybody watching a tutorial about how to do stencils could do it like that (or even better). Copying a tabby is a little bit more difficult.
I think it is maybe about the point of view, if i didn't knew him for so long and you would now show him to me quickly, i maybe would think like you. But I'm following him for a long time and would call myself a fan of his work. That is maybe the reason why i see that different...

Yeah, like I said, I really like a lot of his stuff. He's very similar in style, with a lot of politics, tech, and economic commentary in his work, all often times tongue in cheek. Their work is also often shades of white\black\grey with limited, but very deliberate use of color for a bold effect. And I agree with you about Bambi. She's alright, but definitely not with the technical skill and aesthetic of the other two.
It would be interesting to have prints of Banksy\Tabby side by side!

www.tabbythis.com/clothingThe shirts do look nice. Also it's interesting the last comment was about "living off a vacuum left by Banksy". Sure doesn't feel like there's much of a vacuum left by Banksy in the past year... I still think Tabby has some nice ideas and good execution. Not talking about a replacement or anything, but it's good to see other artists with similar style contributing to the arts. Cheers
